Agromart and the Sóller Cooperative expect to sell 200,000 kilos of oranges and lemons from La Vall this year.
After the success obtained in 2021 with the sale of more than 100,000 kg of citrus, the goal this year is to double that amount. Rafel Figuera, co-founder of Agromart and Miquel Gual, president of the Sóller Cooperative, see it as feasible.
Miquel Gual stated that this collaboration agreement “allows oranges to reach all Majorcans through Agromart’s points of sale.” According to Gual himself, the orange sector offers fairly good quality this year and the price can be maintained thanks to initiatives such as Agromart, which pays a bonus of between 20 and 25 cents more than Mercapalma “a fact that must be recognized and to thank”.
The importance of the agreement is not only for the present but also for future campaigns. “If we are now over a million oranges in the next few years we could be around three and a half or four million and therefore it is about establishing commercial contacts and one of the best is with Agromart” added Gual.
For his part, Rafel Figuera assured that “the bases of the agreement follow the company’s philosophy, which is to promote the local product. And in the case of the Sóller orange, it is an exquisite product.” Agromart assures that this year a good season is expected that will help achieve the objectives. Figuera recalled the numerous agreements made by the Porreres company with small producers in Mallorca and which he has valued very positively for the importance it has in helping the primary sector and continuing to bet on local and zero kilometer products.
The production volume of the Sóller Cooperative is between one million and one and a half million kilos and exports are over 70%, with Germany being the main recipient country of these excellent products.
