Everything has an origin, in the case of the Mallorcan black artichoke, the experts have investigated and it seems that this variety of the artichoke is a descendant of the violet artichoke of Provence. There are indications that they came from France in the 19th century.
In Mallorca we have this very special variety, very tasty, native, autochthonous and a part of the flavors of our island.
