
How to make Mallorcan empanadas recipe

Ingredients needed to make empanadas:

Ingredients to make the empanada dough:
- 200 ml of milk
- 200 ml of oil
- 100 ml of melted lard
- 575 g of flour
Ingredients for the empanada filling:
- 1 kg of Mallorcan red sheep meat (ovella roja mallorquina)
- 400 g of peas
- A bunch of spring onions
- Sobrasada
- Bacon
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Tap de cortí paprika
- Olive oil
Steps to cook typical empanadas:
1. Prepare the Mallorcan empanada dough step by step
We will begin by making the dough. Combine the milk, oil, melted lard, and flour. Once it’s ready, let it rest covered with a cloth.



2. How to make the traditional filling for Easter empanadas.
Prepare the filling: cut the spring onions into small pieces, mix them with the peas, and add the spices: salt, oil, black pepper, and paprika. Cut the sobrasada and bacon into pieces (the filling is to the consumer’s taste, you can add whatever you like. In fact, traditional Mallorcan empanadas only contained lamb meat).



3. Shape the empanadas to the ideal size
To make the empanadas, prepare 100 g dough balls and 25 g dough balls that will serve as the lid.



4. Fill and close the empanadas as done in Mallorca
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin and, with the help of a mold or by hand, shape it. Now, just fill and close the empanada.



5. Bake the empanadas and let them cool before serving
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and, when it’s hot, bake the empanadas for 10 minutes. Then, lower the temperature to 180 degrees and let the empanadas cook for about 1 hour. To serve, let them cool a bit.
